Hayssam Barhoun is the President and Founder of Integral Energy Performance (formerly EcoSmart Building Energy Solutions). He has over twenty years’ experience in energy performance consulting, and has developed a reputation for expertise in energy modelling and energy-efficient design strategies. Prior to founding Integral in 2017, he worked with the National Research Council in Ottawa and as an energy consultant for private sector firms in Canada and internationally. His career has spanned three continents, with project experience in France, UAE, the United States, and Canada, across various industry sectors including design energy consulting, energy-efficiency program verification, energy management, and energy master planning.
Hayssam’s extensive project portfolio includes ASHRAE audits (levels 1, 2, 3); design energy modelling for LEED®, Green Globes, and Zero Carbon Buildings certifications; modelling of geothermal energy systems for buildings; and regulatory compliance modelling including the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), Toronto Green Standard, and the Ontario Building Code. He is proficient in a range of energy modelling software applications including eQuest, IES-VE, Trace-700, and EnergyPlus, and has developed customized analysis tools to improve the accuracy of energy model outputs. Hayssam is a licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modelling Professional (BEMP), and LEED® AP BD+C, and is fluent in English and French. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Lebanese University and a PhD in Building Physics from the National Institute of Applied Science in Lyon, France.
Anne Lombardi is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager (CEM), with expertise in high-performance building design, energy and carbon modeling, and energy performance regulations. She has over ten years’ experience in energy performance consulting including energy modelling, energy auditing, low-carbon building design, renewable energy design and assessment, and management and delivery of energy efficiency programs and education. Anne has extensive knowledge of net zero carbon design following the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) Zero Carbon Buildings standard; energy performance regulations including the National Energy Code of Canada (NECB) 2017 and 2020 requirements; energy auditing practices following ASHRAE Levels 1, 2, 3; and Climate Change risk mitigation design. She is skilled in a variety of energy modelling software applications including eQuest, HAP, RETScreen, HOT2000, and WUFI.
Anne’s career experience includes managing Efficiency Nova Scotia’s Commercial New Construction program, teaching in NSCC’s energy sustainability engineering technology program, conducting impact assessments of proposed tidal energy development sites, and designing building automation systems. She has been monitoring her carbon footprint since the age of ten, and is passionate about helping society understand and redefine the complex systems that shape our relationship with the earth – with the ultimate goal of reducing anthropogenic impacts on the natural world. Anne holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Western and a Master’s in Physical Oceanography from Dalhousie.
